Avery's Blessing Day - March 24, 2012

Avery's blessing day was a little non-traditional from what normal Mormon blessings consist of.

When we had Avery we knew that we were going to be moving soon and planned on just coming "home" at the beginning of March to bless her in one of our families wards so that all could be in attendance. Nebraska was quite a hike for everyone and we knew not everyone would be able to make it. We felt it important that we get as many of her family members there as possible for this special day. So like I said, we were planning on going home the first weekend in March. Well, towards the middle of February Erick was offered the job in Las Vegas and all chaos broke loose. We had to move and we had to move fast. So we decided to wait a few weeks until we got to Vegas knowing that it would be just as convenient for our families to come there as it would for us to go to California. Then once we decided on a weekend we found out Erick would be starting his job the next Monday and he may have to fly to CA for training at the corporate office. Odds were he might have to leave on Sunday and we wouldn't be able to bless Avery.

So we spoke to the Bishop of our new ward and all our family and decided we would bless her on Saturday the 24th. Initially we were going to hold it at our house, but as the list grew bigger of those who would attend and the number of boxes we hadn't unpacked didn't dwindle like hoped, we decided to have the blessing at the ward building and then a little luncheon at the park by our house. We REALLY lucked out living by this beautiful park.

We could not have asked for a more beautiful day. So many of our family were able to come to town, the weather was beautiful and we had just the best time. I loved how the whole event was so intimate with it just being our family and we could take as much time as we needed. Typically they have baby blessings very quickly at the beginning of Sacrament meeting, where you quickly get up, say your blessing and sit down. We would have been surrounded by a ward full of people we had never met before. It was so special to just have our family there in the Relief Society room.

Erick gave Avery the most beautiful and heartfelt blessing. He was so nervous before hand but did great. It was short and sweet and perfect.
